Is There Any Evidence that Trigger Warnings Work?
Topic: Political Correctness

A distinction ought to be made between best practices for trigger warnings and trigger warnings as best practice. Although these are not mutually exclusive concepts, empirical evidence has yet to be presented in support of trigger warnings as best practice when it comes to mental health. We should not continue to ignore this absence. Without evidence, individuals who rely on evidence-based decision-making will have no reason to believe that trigger warnings are beneficial to students, and spectators to the furious debates on university campuses about their use may have little or no conception of what trigger warnings are and what they do. My exploration of this topic led me to compile my findings into a new 51-page report entitled, “Trigger Warnings and The Need for Evidence-based Interventions on University Campuses.”
